A SAFE PLACE TO TALK
JOY DUNSTAN, Licensed Professional Counselor
Joy is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a nationally certified Master Addictions Counselor and Clinical Hypnotherapist.
Joy’s many years of experience include management of one of Oregon’s most highly successful treatment programs for chemically addicted women as well as numerous years in private practice in both the U.S. and Mexico. In my private practices both in Oregon and Mexico, I worked with individuals and couples on a wide variety of emotional and relational issues ranging from depression and anxiety to marriage counseling, and everything in-between (see Services).
I've recently returned to the U.S. after 13 years living and working in Mexico and then three months in Bhutan. My home in Mexico was near Lake Chapala, an area in the central highlands of Mexico that hosts a large number of English-speaking expatriates. In Bhutan, a tiny kingdom tucked between India and Tibet, I worked at their national hospital in the capital city of Thimphu. Living in other cultures has provided me incredible experiences that helped me grow both personally and professionally. At the moment, I am taking a break from therapy services while I readjust to life in Oregon.

While in Mexico, I wrote a monthly column entitled "Joyful Musings" in El Ojo del Lago, a monthly publication at Lakeside. These articles focus on a variety of psychological issues and can be found by clicking here.
In addition to my column, I published a book of creative non-fiction also called Joyful Musings, a collection of stories about growing up, self-discovery, and reflections on life north and south of the border. It is available in both paperback and Kindle editions on Amazon.com. You can read a few sample selections by clicking here.
